As an Engine Specialist at Boskalis, you will provide expert-level technical support, project management, and strategic advice for the maintenance, repair, and optimization of our main propulsion engines. You will act as the knowledge owner for our fleet’s engines, ensuring reliability, cost efficiency, and compliance for our global dredging operations.
Your Key Responsibilities
- Act as the technical reference point for Fleet Teams on propulsion and auxiliary engines.
- Diagnose and technically assess complex engine issues, failures, and abnormal trends.
- Support Fleet Teams in understanding technical risks and consequences of repair decisions.
- Technically assess repair scopes, service reports, and quotations from OEMs and service providers.
- Evaluate workmanship and technical quality during and after repairs.
- Feed technical insights and lessons learned back into the organization for continuous improvement.
- Attend critical repair moments on board or in dock when technical judgment is required.
- Act as Boskalis’ technical representative during inspections, overhauls, and failure investigations.

Who We Are Looking For
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Engine Specialist with a strong background in marine engineering. The ideal candidate will possess a Marine Engineering degree or an equivalent technical qualification, coupled with hands-on experience as a former chief engineer or senior service engineer across multiple engine types. You should have a solid understanding of lubricants, fuels, engine wear mechanisms, and root-cause analysis, demonstrating a proven track record in managing 4-stroke marine engine and auxiliary systems overhauls and troubleshooting.
Crucially, you will be business-minded, reliable, approachable, and trusted, with an entrepreneurial approach to cost control and risk mitigation. Excellent communication skills, both written and spoken, in English are essential, as you will be providing critical assessments and practical advice to various teams. Your ability to technically challenge third parties on scope, performance, and pricing will be vital to ensuring the highest standards of our fleet operations.
- Marine Engineering degree or equivalent technical qualification.
- Hands-on experience as a chief engineer or senior service engineer on multiple engine types.
- Solid understanding of lubricants, fuels, engine wear mechanisms, and root‑cause analysis.
- Proven track record in managing 4-stroke marine engine and auxiliary systems overhauls and troubleshooting.

- Excellent command of written and spoken English.
